ADM Carbon Capture and Storage

Scott McDonald, Director Biofuels Development,
Archer Daniels Midland Company

Wednesday, April 8, 2015 ~ 2-3 pm Eastern

With the recently-achieved milestone of successfully capturing and storing one million metric tons of carbon dioxide in a deep saline formation in Illinois, Archer Daniels Midland Company is leading the way for “CCS” – with an emphasis on the “S”. ADM’s facility at Decatur, Illinois is part of the Department of Energy’s Regional Carbon Sequestration Initiative, and has been storing carbon dioxide since November, 2011 in the nearby Mount Simon Sandstone formation. The carbon dioxide is captured at the Decatur plant, compressed, and transported through a mile-long pipeline before being injected approximately 7,000 feet below the surface. The 300-foot thick shale formation acts as a barrier to seal the carbon dioxide underground.

Join us as Scott shares information about the project, the better-than-expected testing results achieved to date, and the implications of the progress made on the future of CCS.
