Tomorrow’s Leadership Council
Nurturing Future Coal Industry Leaders
The ACC’s Tomorrow’s Leadership Council (TLC) is designed to advance and vest executive talent in the coal industry. The Council provides a meaningful opportunity for up-and-coming executives to enhance their industry knowledge and networks through projects and activities that advance industry-wide objectives as well as professional development goals.
The TLC program, which launched in 2009, has "graduated” over 110 executives from the following companies:
Ingram Barge Company
LG&E and KU Energy
Mercuria Energy Trading
Platte River Power Authority
SCH Services, LLC
SGS Mineral Services
Union Pacific Railroad
United Bulk Terminals
White Energy Coal
Xcel Energy, Inc.
What Activities/Events Are Planned for TLC Participants?
TLC participants receive complimentary registrations to each of the two annual strategic industry issues conferences hosted by the American Coal Council (an $850 value/conference) ~ the Spring Coal Forum (March 8-10, 2016 / Clearwater, FL) and Coal Market Strategies Conference (August 8-10, 2016 / Park City, UT). See: http://www.americancoalcouncil.org/events/event_list.asp for information on all ACC events.
Senior level executives from the coal supply, consumption, transportation, trading, consulting, and supply services industries attend these events. Each ACC event provides the latest information on critical issues impacting each of these industry sectors.
At the Spring Coal Forum and Coal Market Strategies conferences, TLC participants attend a special 1/2-day professional development seminar - conducted by an expert presenter (a $500 value/conference). Each seminar is designed to advance professional skills in the areas of project management, communications, research, and/or presentation skills.
A special dinner for TLC participants is hosted on the opening evening of the Spring Coal Forum and Coal Market Strategies conferences for TLC participants. This dinner provides TLC members with an opportunity to network with industry peers and senior level industry and government executives who are invited to share their expertise and perspectives on the future of the industry with TLC attendees (a $150 value/dinner).
Total TLC value = $3,000
The virtual TLC community meets electronically and via conference call between conferences to work on industry-wide projects decided on by TLC participants themselves, in coordination with ACC staff.
How is the TLC Structured?
The TLC is organized as an annual, calendar-year program beginning in January and concluding in December. This one-year commitment is recommended to best benefit from the program offerings and opportunities.
What is Unique About the TLC?
The TLC is specific to the coal industry ~ the community of participants and their activities focus exclusively on coal. The program is intended to compliment other corporate leadership development programs that are designed to advance more general business skills.
Who Should Participate in the TLC?
Entry-level staff and mid-level executives from the coal supply, consumption, transportation, and trading industries, as well as those working in companies that support these business sectors. There are no age-specific limitations ~ our participants have ranged in age from 20-something to 40-something.
The TLC program is open to all coal-related companies and organizations, with a discount for ACC member company participants.
ACC reserves the right to limit the number of annual program participants in order to offer the best possible TLC experience.
