Frank Clemente, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Penn State University
Thursday, October 31, 2013 ~ 2-3 pm Eastern
Coal is the most important source of electricity in the world. Despite the headlines, rhetoric, and posturing, the human race is still turning to coal. It’s a vital part of addressing global challenges regarding access to electricity, socioeconomic security and a clean environment. It’s THE essential energy source and solution.
Join us as we welcome Dr. Frank Clemente for a discussion about coal’s continuing role as the pathway to a better life here in America and across the globe. When was the last time you thought of the U.S as a "developing nation”? Or the consequences of adding 70 million people to our planet each year? Dr. Clemente will explore the implications of:
• An unprecedented increased in the U.S. population over the next thirty years - dwarfing the "Baby Boom” of the mid-20th Century
• The rise of urban "mega-regions” in America
• Global urbanization and demographic trends
• Coal’s role in achieving the goal of eradicating world poverty
