Betsy Monseu Appointed CEO of ACC

Monseu Appointed CEO of ACCWashington, DC – The nation’s trusted voice and advocate for the American coal industry is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth "Betsy” Monseu as Chief Executive Officer of the American Coal Council (ACC) effective April 22, 2013. Ms. Monseu brings more than 30 years of relevant industry experience to the association, having worked previously in the utility, transportation, and coal production sectors. Monseu replaces outgoing CEO, Janet Gellici, who has served as ACC CEO throughout its 30-year history.

"We welcome Betsy’s broad industry and management background, and believe that she brings the leadership and experience needed to guide the ACC into the future,” said Ms. Gellici. "Her diverse history and experience fits perfectly with the equally diverse membership of our organization.”

Monseu has many years of experience in the power, transportation and coal production industries. Monseu began her career with Central Illinois Public Service Company, now part of Ameren Illinois. In 1990 she assumed a management position with Southern Pacific Railroad as Manager Coal Market Development and then, in 1994, moved to Cyprus Amax Coal Company. Most recently, Monseu was Vice President, Transportation for the sales affiliate of Alpha Natural Resources in its Baltimore, Maryland office from August 2009 until late 2012.

Monseu has earned an MBA from the University of Illinois, Springfield, and a BS in Economics and Business Administration from Illinois College.

The American Coal Council represents the collective business interests of the coal industry ~ from the hole-in-the-ground to the plug-in-the-wall ~ including coal suppliers, coal consumers (utility & industrial), energy traders, coal transportation companies and coal support service firms. ACC provides relevant educational programs, advocacy support and peer-to-peer networking forums to advance members’ commercial and professional development interests. Additionally, ACC advocates for coal as an economic, abundant and environmentally sound fuel source.
