Dear American Coal Council members / advertising partners,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to address a concerning issue that has once again come to our attention regarding Maria Martonick and Martonick Publications (Martonick). Recently, there have been incidents of unscrupulous business activities associated with Martonick, specifically related to a publication named Coal Energy.

You or your payables department may have received an invoice for advertising fraudulently from Martonick, making references to the American Coal Council (ACC). Please be informed that ACC has no history of, nor any current business relationship or affiliation with Martonick or any publication titled Coal Energy. We have been made aware of several cases where Martonick has been sending out misleading and unauthorized invoices for advertising, which were not approved by the recipients. We would like to clarify that these invoices are entirely false and misleading. Furthermore, these invoices claim that the publication in question reaches the members of four associations, including the American Coal Council, which is inaccurate. It is crucial to note that the ACC has never shared any mailing lists or member information with Martonick.

I want to emphasize that The Davis Media Company Inc. has been ACC’s exclusive publishing partner since May 2017. The Davis Media Company Inc. is solely responsible for all advertising sales in partnership with ACC for our media and publications, which include the upcoming ACC Membership Directory, American Coal magazine, American Coal Buyers’ Guide, newsletters, and website banner advertising.

Please, take note of this information and exercise caution if you encounter any further correspondence or invoices from Martonick Publications related to advertising, claiming affiliation with the American Coal Council. If you have any questions or require further clarification on this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us. If you have received an invoice relating to this scam, please share it with myself and also Sean Davis, the president of The Davis Media Company Inc. via email to sdavis@davismediaco.com. We will be making a record of all instances and taking the appropriate action with the authorities in our continued efforts to protect our member companies and advertising clients of the American Coal Council.
